Steven is an Allied Health Assistant on NSW’s Central Coast, currently working on a medical and rehabilitation ward. He assists patients with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, nutrition, social work and podiatry. In between working, swimming and patrolling for his local surf lifesaving club, Steven is also studying a Bachelor of Podiatry at the University of Newcastle. He is looking forward to his adventure in Kenya!

In 2015, Steven travelled to Kenya to participate in our Global Adventurer’s Program (formerly known as Overseas Action Program). During his program, Steven really enjoyed working alongside the World Youth International Team and members of the local community in Odede, Kenya, primarily to assist with building a water tower.

The experience in Kenya taught me how we sometimes take things for granted in Australia. There were many program highlights, from experiencing the culture of Africa to feeding baby elephants and giraffes in the animal orphanage. But the most memorable experience was when we visited the local schools and spent time with the children,” shares Steven.

He valued the experience so much that Steven recently decided that he would join another Kenyan volunteer experience – this time our Nurses In Action program!

“I believe that participating on the Nurses In Action program will help improve my skills as an Allied Health Worker and give me the opportunity to help people who may not otherwise have access to treatment. I would like to further my skills, meet new people, and develop a deeper understanding of the Kenyan culture and lifestyle.

Thank you for sharing your insights with us Steven - we loved hearing what you have been up to since you returned home from your last program in 2015, and cant wait for you to be back in Kenya with our other Nurses In Action Volunteers!

Combine your passion for helping others with your desire to see the world! With the ability to accumulate CPD hours on the Nurses In Action programs, there are more opportunities than ever to develop vital skills to excel in your heathcare profession!
