World Youth International are extremely thankful for the support of Icon Group, Australia’s largest dedicated provider of cancer care. Icon Group have partnered with us to help facilitate Health Camps, which will provide hundreds of vulnerable people within Kenya access to a range of healthcare services, improving quality of life.
Kenya experiences many development challenges and a large proportion of the population live below the poverty line. World Youth International are committed to community-led, sustainable development projects that improve access to healthcare and education within impoverished communities abroad. Over the past decade, we have implemented and facilitated the delivery of Health Camps, which have treated over 10,000 patients from remote villages in Kenya. These Health Camps have been set up and run by teams of health professionals who participate in our Nurses In Action volunteer program.
Icon Group’s donation will enable hundreds of people to be tested for common illnesses such as malaria and HIV during a Health Camp. Testing stations and a pharmacy will be set up, where patients will also receive medication and wounds can be treated as required.
The world is a different place to how we knew it and the impact of pandemic is being felt far and wide. Countries like Kenya have been experiencing long term lockdowns and there’s no light at the end of the tunnel just yet. While the Nurses In Action program is grounded until travel restrictions ease, there are communities who have no access whatsoever to healthcare.
“Disasters such as the global pandemic affect us all; but those living in poverty are always the most vulnerable as it makes it even harder for them to break the cycle that so many families have lived in for generations. We have no doubt that Icon Group’s commitment and generosity will make a difference in the lives of many people, and I’d like to acknowledge the team for taking the first step in such a meaningful journey by contributing to a Health Camp. We deeply appreciate the support and look forward to developing a relationship with the team at Icon over the next few months and beyond,” thanked Terry Hoey, General Manager, World Youth International.
“Icon Group’s mission is to bring the best possible healthcare, closer to home for people around the globe. While Icon’s focus is in the delivery of cancer care we commend the work of World Youth International and the positive impact they are having on healthcare in an incredibly underserved nation,” said Mark Middleton, Icon Group CEO.
We will share photos of Icon's Health Camp in action next year - stay tuned!
