Tony Canterbury will soon be embarking on quite an adventure, participating in the upcoming Trek Nepal 2019.

The Trek Nepal 2019 team consists of 21 Computershare employees from Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong who will embark on a trip of a lifetime, strenuously hiking for 6 days through the Annapurna Mountain Range in the Himalayas. With an ambitious fundraising target of AUD 143,000, they have dedicated extensive amounts of personal time fundraising for their trip. With Computershare covering all travel costs, 100% of the money raised will go towards the World Youth International School in Nepal, ensuring that it can continue to support the many local children who may not otherwise receive an education. The team will complete the Trek with a welcome reception at the school where they will be able to see first-hand how their efforts are making a positive impact on the lives of the students, as well as the wider community.

While Tony is really looking forward to the Trek and experiencing Nepalese culture, the highlight of Tony’s journey will be visiting the school.

“I feel very privileged to be given this amazing opportunity to experience firsthand the difference our contributions are making in the lives of the children of Nepal.” Preparing for the Trek has also enabled Tony to get to know his colleagues better.

The teamwork and support displayed by all has been sensational and will prove advantageous throughout the trek.

As a father of 2 and a Business Manager for Computershare Australia, trekking the Himalayas is very different from Tony’s normal routine. However he knows exactly what he has committed to, having completed multiple day hikes in Victoria and the South Island of New Zealand.

I love the outdoors. Hiking is my favourite activity to relax and get away from it all. I have had to increase my fitness, stepping up (excuse the pun) the distances I walk each day. All the stair climbing will be a challenge. I have been walking 12kms to and from work and enjoying monthly walks with fellow trekkers.

Being involved in Trek Nepal 2019 has had a great impact on Tony. He has learnt so much already about Nepalese culture and the current daily challenges Nepalese people experience.

The team commence Trek Nepal on 6 November. You can help them achieve their fundraising goal and improve children’s education in Nepal by donating here.
