Sharing My Dream, Reaching Out for Your Help

As I stood on the stage at my high school graduation in 1992, I proclaimed my lifelong dream of travelling to Africa and making a difference in healthcare. That vision has been etched in my heart ever since, driving me to pursue a career in healthcare. Over the years, I've been blessed to travel the world, raising four incredible children with my loving husband. But now, as I embark on the next chapter of my life, I'm excited to rekindle my dreams.

I’m excited to announce that I have been accepted as a volunteer in the ‘Nurses in Action’ program with World Youth International. I'm thrilled to announce that I'll travel to a village community two hours west of Kisumu, Odede, Africa, from January 14th to February 13th, 2026, with a small team of nurses. This incredible opportunity will allow me to give back to the world and help those in need. I'm eager to contribute my skills and experience to the health services and community outreach medical camps and programs that will be led by local healthcare professionals at the Mama Ann's Odede Community Health Centre.

As I prepare for this life-changing journey, I humbly request your support. I am committed to funding my own travel expenses, but I still need your help. My goal is to raise $1850 AUD. Every Donation, big or small, even a couple of dollars, will help fund World Youth International’s global projects, such as their school in Nepal and their hospital in Kenya.

Your donation will testify to your kindness and commitment to improving the world. Together, we can create a ripple effect of love and care that will resonate far beyond our initial efforts.

Your kindness means the world to me and the people I'll serve in Kenya.

Let's make a difference together!

In Kindness

Kenya

Kenya has a stunning landscape, from the open plains of the Masai Mara to the hectic city of Nairobi, from majestic snow-capped mountains to lush green forests. There are more than 40 indigenous tribes and many other ethnic communities living in this country, many speaking different traditional languages and holding their own unique sub-cultures.

Sadly, the beauty of Kenya contrasts sharply with the country's high levels of poverty, gender inequality, homelessness and disease, particularly HIV and AIDS, with 3 in 5 people living with the disease in some areas. Around 50% of the population live below the poverty line and natural disasters frequently put the lives of millions at risk. This is where members of our Nurses in Action program make a lasting impact.

Nurses in Action

The Nurses in Action (NIA) Program is a unique, powerful and immersive experience held over 4 weeks which allows nurses and allied health professionals of all ages to provide primary healthcare services to people living in remote communities.

The NIA Program runs in Kenya and Nepal with the objective of building local capacity in improving health services to rural communities (such as at the Odede Community Health Centre in Kenya), and offering healthcare to communities living in extreme poverty who would not be able to access it otherwise (such as earthquake-affected communities in Nepal).

NIA Volunteers work in local medical clinics and hospitals as well as on Community Outreach Programs and Medical Camps, alongside local staff and community members.
