World Youth International (WYI) is proud to announce the launch of the Anderson-Zaska Education Scholarship Fund, a transformative initiative dedicated to providing financial support for students at the WYI School in Nepal. This fund, generously established by Neil Anderson, will cover essential school costs including uniforms, lunch, books, excursions, exams and curriculum fees, ensuring that five deserving students can continue their education each year.
Neil Anderson has been a steadfast supporter of WYI for many years. His generosity has already changed the lives of multiple students through individual sponsorships and contributions to the Sapana Dreaming program. In addition to the Anderson-Zaska Education Scholarship Fund, Neil personally donates funds every month to support students.
Neil’s passion for education stems from his father’s belief that "Education is the most important thing to allow the children of the world to have a better life." This philosophy aligns perfectly with WYI’s mission to empower children through education, and we are honoured to have Neil’s support in making this vision a reality. Five students, each facing significant financial barriers, have been selected to receive a scholarship for the remainder of their schooling journey. Their stories reflect resilience, dedication, and the transformative power of education. We are pleased to introduce this year’s students who have received a Scholarship:
Dolma (Grade 7)
Dolma tragically lost both parents at a young age. Raised by her uncle, who works as a daily wage labourer, Dolma was on the verge of dropping out due to financial hardship. With this scholarship, she can now complete her education through to Grade 12, giving her a new sense of hope and security.
Anita (Grade 8)
Anita is the only child in her family attending school. With illiterate parents who struggled to make ends meet, Anita’s education was at risk. Since enrolling at WYI School in Grade 6, she has shown steady academic improvement. This scholarship ensures she can continue her education and achieve her dreams.
Prabav (Grade 9)
Prabav’s family situation took a difficult turn when his father, who was living abroad, lost contact with them. His mother has been doing her best to support his education, but financial struggles threatened his ability to stay in school. Thanks to this scholarship, Prabav can continue pursuing his love for literature while strengthening his skills in mathematics.
Manika (Grade 11)
Manika’s father is a taxi driver and has struggled to support her education. Despite this challenge, Manika has excelled in school, earning an A grade in her Secondary Education Examination. This scholarship guarantees her the opportunity to complete her studies and build a brighter future.
Sumikshya (Grade 11)
Sumikshya is the only child in her family to have completed school-level education. Though she struggled academically at first, she worked tirelessly and secured a B+ in her Secondary Education Examination. Now, with this scholarship, she can focus on excelling in her Grade 11 studies without the burden of financial stress.
The Anderson-Zaska Education Scholarship Fund is more than just financial aid, it is a lifeline for students who might otherwise be forced to drop out due to poverty. Neil’s model of group sponsorship, where these funds support multiple students over a five-year period, ensures that bright, motivated students can complete their 10+2 education and unlock a world of opportunities.
While supporting five students is a tremendous effort, there are always more students who still rely on vital support like that, which Neil has provided! So, we invite more education partners to be like Neil!
● Sponsorship packages are available for donors committing to at least five years.
● Donors have the unique opportunity to name their scholarship fund, honouring a loved one or leaving a lasting legacy.
● Funds cover not just tuition but also essential expenses like meals, excursions, and healthcare, ensuring a holistic education experience.
The WYI School has been transforming lives since 1999, providing quality education to underprivileged children. With the launch of the Anderson-Zaska Education Scholarship Fund, we take another significant step toward ensuring that every child, regardless of their financial situation, has the chance to learn, grow and succeed.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Neil Anderson for his unwavering support and generosity. Because of him, five students will continue their education this year and many more in the future.
Together, we can change lives through education.
