In November this year I will be travelling with 7 other colleagues to volunteer with Nurses in Action in Nepal . Volunteering is something I have always wanted to do - to give back but more importantly to learn from others . We will be working with other volunteers and Nepalese health staff in Pokhara and in remote villages , caring for and assisting in health provision education .
Resources in Nepal for health care are reduced or unavailable , and distances to hospitals makes attending health centres difficult for remote areas. Women in Nepal have an increased risk of maternal morbidity and post childbirth complications .
Part of our volunteering program is to fundraise to assist in World Youth International’s vital projects in Nepal . Any money donated is tax deductible and will go to projects such as the World Youth International School , empowering girls into STEM and other worthwhile projects assisting the Nepalese people .
Please help me raise these much needed funds. Again all donations are tax deductible .
Thanks for assistance
Kerrie
Nepal
Though most visitors come to Nepal to experience the majestic Himalayas, these people tend to see only the small areas that receive considerable economic benefits from tourism. One simply needs to step behind the backdrop of the beautiful mountain scenery and into the remote regions of Nepal to learn that much of the population lives in poverty. In spite of substantial external development assistance, Nepal remains one of the least developed countries in the world. High disease prevalence, low adult literacy rates, natural disasters, food security and availability problems and high rates of child malnutrition are just a few of the challenges the Nepali people face on a daily basis. This is where members of our volunteer programs can make a lasting impact.
Nurses in Action
The Nurses in Action (NIA) Program is a unique, powerful and immersive experience held over 3-4 weeks which allows nurses and allied health professionals of all ages to provide primary healthcare services to people living in remote communities.
The NIA Program runs in Kenya and Nepal with the objective of building local capacity in improving health services to rural communities (such as at the Odede Community Health Centre in Kenya), and offering healthcare to communities living in extreme poverty who would not be able to access it otherwise (such as earthquake-affected communities in Nepal).
NIA Volunteers work in local medical clinics and hospitals as well as on Community Outreach Programs and Medical Camps, alongside local staff and community members.
