CPU United Kingdom

Computershare has been partnering with Australian charity, World Youth International since 2017. Funding provided by CPU has allowed WYI to construct a senior level school and the Change a Life Boarding Centre at the World Youth International School in Nepal that supports over 633 students.

The WYI School was opened on September 14 1999, with the purpose to train local teachers and provide a rich, dynamic education for its students. Situated in the Gokarna region, the school provides children from low socio economic backgrounds with quality education.

The World Youth International School was built in the memory of WYI founder, Robert Hoey. Nepal was chosen because at the time, it had the third lowest literacy rate in the world. Approximately 87% of women and 70% of men were illiterate.

The school now caters for students of all ages and currently has over 633 students enrolled at the school. The current average grade pass is 96% making it one of the top-rated schools in Nepal. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, the school has increased its scholarship program from 105 students and it now offers 307 free scholarships for students in need from the local Gokarna community.

Thanks to Computershare, the WYI School has been able to open its senior college allowing students to complete their whole academic journey at one school. The recent addition of the Change a Life Boarding Centre is providing onsite accommodation, tuition, meals and a loving home for up to 50 students each year. Funds received from the fee-paying Boarding Centre are being used to offset the ever-increasing costs of the WYI scholarship program which supports nearly 50% of school students.

World Youth International has entered into a new 4-year partnership with Computershare to construct an I.T. College which is due to open in 2025. The College will enrol up to 80 students each year who are committed to completing a 4-year Bachelor of I.T. Degree. Computershare are generously donating laptops to each student to help them with their studies and providing video link classroom assistance so students can get a better understanding of how the I.T. sector works within the corporate sector.

Nepal

Though most visitors come to Nepal to experience the majestic Himalayas, these people tend to see only the small areas that receive considerable economic benefits from tourism. One simply needs to step behind the backdrop of the beautiful mountain scenery and into the remote regions of Nepal to learn that much of the population lives in poverty. In spite of substantial external development assistance, Nepal remains one of the least developed countries in the world. High disease prevalence, low adult literacy rates, natural disasters, food security and availability problems and high rates of child malnutrition are just a few of the challenges the Nepali people face on a daily basis.

Your generous donation will be used to purchase 2 brand new buses that will help to transport the ever-increasing student numbers at the World Youth International School. Since the opening of the senior school, we have seen student number rise from 305 to 633 students in just under 3 years. We currently have 2 school buses that are required to do multiple school pick-ups and drop offs each day. Students often have to catch the early bus and arrive at school 90 minutes before school starts or catch the late bus and leave 90 minutes after school is complete. The purchase of 2 new buses will ensure that all children attend the school and depart at the same time each day.

Please dig deep and help us reach our goal of raising $100,000.
