The South Australian Tall Poppy 'Life Experience Award'

Since our creation in 1988, World Youth International has always strived to add value to people's lives around the world and has built a reputation of being innovative, exciting and unique. We have always looked outside of the square when looking at projects and time and time again we have fascinated people's imagination with our innovation and creativity.

In April 2003. Terry Hoey, Chief Executive Officer of World Youth International was nominated for the South Australian 'Tall Poppy Life Experience Award' at the young age of 30 years. This award is open to all South Australian businesses and attracts a lot of interest. The Tall Poppy award recognizes excellence and innovation and is awarded to an individual for outstanding specific achievements who continually seeks out and adopts innovation and imaginative approaches, which creates and maintains intellectually challenging environments.

On May 6th, 2003 Terry Hoey was announced the winner of the Tall Poppy Award by the Honourable Jane Lomax Smith and then proceeded to share the story of World Youth International. Terry commenced his speech by sharing that he accepts this award on behalf of his family who have given the last 13 years of their life to World Youth, along with the staff, volunteers and of course, the children of the world! It was a great moment for WYI and the ripple affect is extremely positive for the growth of WYI. Terry then joined Jane Lomax Smith and the previous award winner and was escorted outside to the awaiting Tall Poppy hot air balloon. It was a fantastic moment as they flew off into the skies in this magnificent hot air balloon.
