Overseas Service Program Nepal

The Overseas Service Program in Nepal begins in Kathmandu on the first Friday of each month. The OSP is an individual placement offered to people over the age of 18 for between one and five months in length.

OSP volunteers live with a Nepali host family in the foothills of the Kathmandu Valley and are based within walking or cycling proximity of their placements.

Placement options in Nepal are available in the following areas:

Community Placements (1-3 months) - If you would like to make a meaningful contribution in a developing country but you are not exactly sure how, then this placement is for you. At the heart of community placements in Nepal are partnerships with children's homes and schools. This program gives participants the opportunity to get involved with children in a hands-on capacity as both a mentor and friend. Volunteers spend the morning hours working at a designated orphanage preparing the children for their daily activities. You will then accompany the children to school and have the option of acting as a 'teachers assistant' during your placement. If you would prefer not to volunteer at the local school, we can arrange a full time orphanage placement for you. After school, you will accompany the children back home to their orphanage and support them with after school studies and activities.

WYI also accepts qualified teachers on this program. If you would like to work in a primary school and share your knowledge and skills with primary school students, WYI would welcome your application.
