 Order of Australia

Tribute to a lost son!

Ralph Hoey was devastated by his son's death but decided to channel his grief into building a school in Nepal in memory of his son Robert.

Robert founded World Youth International in 1988 with a dream to change the lives of thousands of third world children. When Robert died in 1996 aged just 28 years-old, his family decided to turn their grieving process into a positive and help realise Robert's dream.

The family committed to continuing Robert's vision of building a school and because of the support of many people Australia wide who believed in Robert's vision, in 1999 the World Youth International School in Gokarna Nepal, was opened.

Ralph Hoey, his family and supporters did not stop at building this one school. They have since gone on to build a children's home in Nepal and two homes in Kenya which has been a huge healing process and something special to the family.

The Order of Australia has been awarded to Ralph by the Governor General of Australia, His Excellency, Michael Jeffrey and presented by the Governor of South Australia, Marjorie Jackson-Nelson.
